About UK Compliance Desk
Plain-English guides to the tax and compliance rules that matter to UK tradespeople, the self-employed and transport managers.

Plumbers, builders, electricians and other CIS subcontractors.

Couriers and drivers
The self-employed getting ready for Making Tax Digital.

Transport managers
Internal and external TMs, and the operators they work for.
Who's behind it
UK Compliance Desk is run by a small UK team with hands-on experience of road transport compliance and self-employment. We started it because the official rules are spread across dozens of GOV.UK pages written in legal language, and the people who have to follow them are busy running vans, lorries and building sites.
How our guides are written
- Every guide is based on official sources (mainly GOV.UK, HMRC, DVSA and the Traffic Commissioners) and links to them.
- Guides are drafted with the help of AI tools, then checked by a person against those sources before they go live.
- Each guide shows the date it was last checked. When rules change, we update it.
- Spotted a mistake? Please email hello@ukcompliancedesk.co.uk and we'll fix it quickly.
How the site is funded
The guides and tools are free. We also make record-keeping spreadsheets (CIS, Making Tax Digital and transport compliance), which we sell through our Etsy shop, NeatSheetsStudioCo. Where a template genuinely helps with a guide, we mention it at the end.
Get in touch
Questions about a guide, or help with one of our templates? Email hello@ukcompliancedesk.co.uk and we'll aim to reply within 2 working days. We can explain our guides and help with our templates, but we can't give advice about your own tax or legal situation.
What we're not
We're not accountants, solicitors or a government body, and our guides are general information rather than advice for your situation. For that, speak to a qualified adviser, or HMRC or DVSA directly.
